An Amerian TV host has accused Natalie Portman of ‘presenting a troubling image of pre marital pregnancy’ in a rant on a U.S. radio show. Rather than congratulating her on her recent Oscar win, Mick Huckabee said of the actress who is expecting her first child with her fiancée, Benjamin Millepied (that’s Millepied, not Millipede as we first read it):
"One of the things that's troubling is that people see Natalie Portman or some other Hollywood starlet who boasts of, 'Hey look, you know, we're having children, we're not married, but we're having these children, and they're doing just fine,"
Er, yeah. Probably because it is pretty fine and not ‘troubling’ at all? He continued with what we imagine was a very red face:
"But there aren't really a lot of single moms out there who are making millions of dollars every year for being in a movie," he said.
Yeah Natalie, how dare you be so blissfully happy and talented enough to earn millions of dollars. More to the point, a single mum? Last time we checked, Natalie was very much engaged and has been spotted with quite an impressive rock on her finger to prove as much. Yet, he went on to say:
"I think it gives a distorted image. Not everybody hires nannies, and caretakers, and nurses. Most single moms are very poor, uneducated, can't get a job, and if it weren't for government assistance, their kids would be starving to death and never have health care. And that's the story that we're not seeing, and it's unfortunate that we glorify and glamorize the idea of [out-of-wedlock children]."
